Edit vs Pixieset

Looking for a Pixieset alternative?

Pixieset makes beautiful galleries. Edit does too, and goes deeper: richer proofing, booking that fits each kind of shoot, and invoicing built for business clients.

No credit card required 60 days free Nothing to migrate

Your client and their team pick the keepers, with limits.

The short version

Galleries and the business, on one project.

Both do galleries, proofing, contracts, invoices, and booking. The difference is how far each one goes once a real client is on the other end.

Proofing that does more than favorites

Hearts and picks, Guest picks from their team, a Matched filter for the shots everyone agrees on, and paid extra retouches (Studio and Agency).

Built for business clients

Payment plans, PO numbers, NET terms, automatic late fees, and files that unlock when the invoice is paid.

Booking that fits the shoot

Smart booking asks different questions for a headshot, a product shoot, or a restaurant, and for a person or a company.

Where Pixieset is great

Honestly, Pixieset is a solid product, and we’d rather you pick the right tool than the wrong one.

  • Prints and products. If your clients order a lot of prints and albums through a lab, Pixieset’s store handles that. Edit sells digital downloads.
  • A website builder. Pixieset can host your portfolio site. Edit doesn’t build websites; it links from the one you have.
  • A free plan. If you only need a few small galleries, their Free plan costs nothing (with a 15% cut of store sales).

Where Edit is different

Pixieset covers the basics well. Edit is for photographers who want each step to go further, especially with business clients.

  • Proofing that does more than favorites. Pixieset gives each person their own favorites list. On proofing galleries, Edit keeps everyone in one place: the client’s picks, their team’s Guest picks, and a Matched filter that shows the shots everyone agrees on. Add your own Photographer’s picks, a limit per person or per look, paid extra retouches (Studio and Agency), and one Submit with their retouching notes.
  • Built for business clients. Payment plans with their own reminders and a late fee on each late payment, PO numbers, NET terms, files that unlock when the invoice is paid, and on Studio and Agency, up to 15 people on one client account, like the person who picks and the person who pays.
  • A real client portal. On Studio and Agency, each client logs in to one place on your studio’s address with their galleries, contracts, invoices, delivered files, and messages. On Solo, everything goes by secure link.

Switching

Don’t migrate. Just start.

Moving years of galleries is awful, so don’t. Leave your old galleries where they are and run your next shoot through Edit.

  1. 1

    Start free

Make your studio in a few minutes. No credit card.

  2. 2

    Run one real shoot

Add the client, send the contract, deliver the gallery, and send the invoice, all from one project.

  3. 3

    Decide with real data

If it feels better, book the next one in Edit too. Your old galleries keep working until you’re ready to let them go.

Tyler Coleman, founder of Edit
“I ran my studio across a gallery host, an invoicing app, a contract tool, and spreadsheets, re-typing the same client into every one. I built Edit so the whole job lives in one place. I run my own shoots on it every day.”
Tyler Coleman, photographer and founder of Edit

Switching from Pixieset

Is Edit a good Pixieset alternative?

If you want custom client galleries and the business side (booking, contracts, invoices, and payments) in one app, yes. If you mainly need print lab fulfillment or a website builder, Pixieset covers those and Edit doesn’t.

Can I move my Pixieset galleries to Edit?

There’s no importer, on purpose. Moving old galleries is a lot of work for little payoff. Most photographers leave past galleries where they are and run new shoots through Edit from day one.

Does Edit take a cut of my sales?

No. Edit takes 0% of your invoices and gallery sales on every plan. Your clients pay through your own Stripe or Square account, so only their standard processing fees apply.

Can I sell photos in Edit like a Pixieset store?

Yes, as digital downloads. Selling galleries let clients buy single photos or many, and public galleries can sell one shoot to many buyers, like a team or an event. Edit doesn’t fulfill prints.

Do my clients need to download an app?

No. Galleries, contracts, and invoices open in any browser and are built for phones. On the Studio and Agency plans, clients also get a branded portal with everything in one place.

How much does Edit cost?

Solo is $29 a month, Studio is $59, and Agency is $99, and every plan includes custom galleries plus the business tools. Every plan starts with a free trial and no credit card. See pricing.

Try Edit on your next shoot.
