Edit vs Zenfolio

Looking for a Zenfolio alternative?

Zenfolio is a website, gallery, and print sales platform. Edit runs the client side instead: richer proofing, contracts, invoices, and booking on one project per shoot.

No credit card required 60 days free Nothing to migrate

Your client and their team pick the keepers, with limits.

The short version

Your website sells prints. Edit runs the shoot.

Zenfolio is a website, gallery, and print sales platform, with booking as an add-on. Edit has no website builder or print lab. It puts the whole shoot on one project instead: booking, contract, proofing, invoice, and files.

Proofing with more voices

Your client’s picks and their team’s Guest picks side by side, Photographer’s picks, and a Matched filter for the shots everyone agrees on.

Contracts and invoices built in

E-signed contracts, invoices, payment plans, and deposits on every plan, with PO numbers, NET terms, and late fees for business clients.

A real client portal

Each client logs in to one place with their galleries, contracts, invoices, delivered files, and messages (Studio and Agency plans).

Where Zenfolio is great

Zenfolio has hosted photographers’ work for nearly 20 years, and it packs a lot into one subscription.

  • A website in the box. Every plan includes a website builder with templates, SEO tools, and your own domain. Edit doesn’t build websites; it links from the one you have.
  • Prints and products. Integrated labs like Miller’s, Mpix, and Bay Photo, plus self-fulfillment and custom products. Edit sells digital downloads only.
  • Volume work. QR codes, bulk folders, and registration forms for school, sports, and event photographers.
  • A low starting price. If you mostly need a site and galleries, Basic costs $9 a month.

Where Edit is different

Zenfolio is built around your website and your store. Edit is built around the shoot, from the first booking to the last invoice.

  • One project per shoot. The booking, contract, gallery, picks, invoice, files, and messages all sit together, with booking on every plan.
  • Proofing that does more than favorites. Your client’s picks and their team’s Guest picks sit side by side, the Matched filter shows the shots everyone agrees on, and extra retouches are paid for right in the gallery (Studio and Agency).
  • Contracts and invoices, not just a booking form. E-signed contracts, invoices, and payment plans of up to 12 payments, each with its own reminders.
  • Built for business clients. PO numbers, NET terms, automatic late fees, ACH bank transfer, files that unlock when the invoice is paid, and on Studio and Agency, up to 15 people on one client account.

Switching

Don’t migrate. Just start.

Moving years of work is awful, so don’t. Leave your Zenfolio galleries where they are and run your next shoot through Edit.

  1. 1

    Start free

Make your studio in a few minutes. No credit card.

  2. 2

    Run one real shoot

Add the client, send the contract, deliver the gallery, and send the invoice, all from one project.

  3. 3

    Decide with real data

If it feels better, book the next one in Edit too. Nothing you already have stops working.

Tyler Coleman, founder of Edit
“So many photographers I know run galleries in one app and invoices in another. That’s the split I wanted to end: one project, one client link, everything on it.”

Switching from Zenfolio

Is Edit a good Zenfolio alternative?

If you want richer proofing, a client portal, and contracts, invoices, and booking built around one project per shoot, yes. If you need a website builder or sell a lot of prints through a lab, Zenfolio covers those and Edit doesn’t.

Can I keep my Zenfolio website and use Edit?

Yes. Many photographers keep the website they have and link to Edit for booking, galleries, and invoices. Edit doesn’t replace your portfolio site.

Does Edit take a cut of my sales?

No. Edit takes 0% of your invoices and gallery sales on every plan, and payments go through your own Stripe or Square account. Zenfolio charges a 7% commerce fee on store orders.

Is booking extra in Edit?

No. The booking page, deposits, and intake questions are on every Edit plan. On Zenfolio, booking is a $10 a month add-on unless you’re on Advanced.

Can I keep my Zenfolio galleries if I switch?

Yes. There’s nothing to move. Leave past galleries where they are and run new shoots through Edit.

Try Edit on your next shoot.

Nothing to migrate. Run one real job through it, start to paid, and see how it feels.
